    Dr. J. Mazzotta

Understanding special education and the IEP process can be stressful and confusing. Many parents and guardians will need the support of an advocate, education consultant, and/or attorney, to successfully navigate the world of special education services at one time, or another. Unlike attorneys, there are no formal licensing, or certification requirements for becoming an advocate. In fact, anyone can appoint themselves as a special education advocate, or expert and publicly advertise their services. It is important to do your research before hiring someone to represent you and your child. Interview the person and make sure to ask about their qualifications, training, and personal approach to resolving demanding situations. You want to work with someone who conducts themselves in a professional manner, communicates clearly, and understands your child’s needs.

Introduction: Dr. Mazzotta is a passionate leader with more than 25 years of professional experience in special education administration and school reform.
